There have been no hacks! Are you guys just being hush hush now? I am pretty sure that Limbo probably has a hack to share with the group regarding new profiles!

Re: Ever since Ashton let me into this tribe...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 11:23 AMthat's not nice brian... especially since i cant get the silly identity module to show up! but since you ask so nicely... here goes. to get a "new profile" do the following:
* paste your own tribe-id into the URL of someone's new profile.
--> you should get an almost empty profile with 3 tabs for editing and a link at the top.
* click the link to switch back to the old profile.
--> you should see your old profile with a new link at the top.
* click the link to switch back to the new profile.
* edit profile to your heart's content.
you now have a new profile.
caveats:
* you'll be missing the bio module (bonus points for finding out how that add that)
* you'll be missing the idnetity module (that's the one with the message me button, links to your photo album etc). -

Re: Ever since Ashton let me into this tribe...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 12:19 PMOK, now that everyone knows how to do this, please don't! I would advise that you go through a more sanctioned route like clicking on the following link:
www.tribe.net/template/Ne...eRedirect.vm
This will create you a new profile and populate all the default modules.
Also, if you would like to be in on this stuff in the future, sign up for the newsletter on the Messages tab under the account link at the top right!! And nice job with the profile hack limbo (and Assaf, who also did the same thing).
Note that the above link is not necessarily public, but also not necessarily private. In other words, if you are going to tell someone about it, do so to a limited audience.

I did following my lack of an invitation. Really, if I knew the newsletter was important/useful I might have done it earlier, but I don't visit that page of 'edit profile' frequently. -

Re: Ever since Ashton let me into this tribe...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 4:25 PMI can't really guarantee that the newsletter will be useful every time, but the problem is that if you opt out of it we really aren't supposed to send you unsolicited email. I would agree that most of it is more marketing related, and doesn't have much to do with new features. -

Re: Ever since Ashton let me into this tribe...
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 4:48 PMWhat Brian said. As it turns out, I'm the email nazi in this case.
Mostly what you'll get from us with that setting is the occasional marketing newsletter, but unless you've asked to receive that mail, we can't really just send out random mail.
It's not like the newsletter is a daily annoyance... I suspect it's closer to monthly. You might be willing to pay that small price so that if we do something like this again, you can be on the list. -

Re: Ever since Ashton let me into this tribe...
Fri, March 11, 2005 - 6:48 PMHi all.
I just got invited to this Tribe by Ashton and have a question.
Am I really behind with all of this or am I just really not seeing this newsletter link?
I followed these directions:
>>sign up for the newsletter on the Messages tab under the account link at the top right!! And nice job with the profile hack limbo (and Assaf, who also did the same thing).
to no avail.
Stupidly yours,

Got another question for ya, is there a newsletter archives list? -

Re: Ever since Ashton let me into this tribe...
Tue, March 15, 2005 - 12:28 AMtry newbies.tribe.net/ or maybe help@tribe.net both are much more relevant for these kind of questions. -

Neither has any info relating to the newsletter.
I dont really have "how to" questions as much as I do "what's the history" and "what's going on with Tribe" questions. -

Re: Ever since Ashton let me into this tribe...
Tue, March 15, 2005 - 10:37 AMThere's no place that you can go to get newsletter archives. If you really wanted them, you could drop a message to Darian (see the about tribe.net link) and ask if he'd send them to you.

I need my identity reset
Mon, March 14, 2005 - 7:23 PMBefore i read Limbo's hack and Brian's warning, i too noticed that URL for what i figured would render my Open Profile. Like Limbo, to make it stick, i reverted to the old profile and then again to the new, and in that process my left column modules failed to initialize. Before Ashton approved my admission here, i wrote Elliot but i think he has since forgotten. In any case, i see Limbo has had his left column modules reset. I guess i need mine too.
And yes, i now subscribe to the newsletter too, but i already get too much mail. In the future, why not use Tribe Messages to notify select users, in the same way Darian had notified us about Privacy Update?

Re: I need my identity reset
Tue, March 15, 2005 - 12:48 PMI'm tempted to revert to the old profile and then do the hack way to get the new one just to try to get an even more minimal profile. -
